WRAPPED IN YOUR OWN WORDS
last updated Tuesday 21st July 2009 - 08:38Caroline Jones is a lady who I met through the WIRE meetings organised throughout the country for women in business.
It is always interesting to find out how and why women set themselves up in business and when asked if she wouldn’t mind telling our readers of Womens Thoughts why she decided to go down this path, Caroline was more than happy to fill us in.
Hi – my name is Caroline and my newly launched business is Wrapped in your own Words, which I started at the beginning of April.
What did I do before this?
For the last 11 years, I have been selling and teaching business people in Shropshire how to administer and interpret various Psychometric tests. The tests have included Aptitude and Behavioural assessments which are used in many different ways including helping recruit the right person for the right job.
18 months ago I decided to take a year sabbatical and I enjoyed it so much that this was extended and eventually I realised that I needed a new challenge. My intention was to write a book about the work I had been doing and whilst this idea hasn’t been abandoned, it is on the back burner for the moment.
What happened next?
Well, I realised that I’m not very good at doing nothing……I’m quite a goal orientated person and for many years my ‘self worth’ has been linked to my work, consequently with no work activities taking place, my self worth began to fall away. I decided to start a business, from home and started to look around at what opportunities there were. Eventually I found this opportunity and decided to go for it.
What appealed to you about this business?
Well, I like the fact that it is a different idea (borne out by the many comments from people so far), and that it is creating something very personal to the recipient. I also like Chocolate!!
What service does the business provide?
We create very personal messages using chocolate wrappers as the means to communicate them.
The messages can:
Increase your sales
Say a very personal Thank You at your Birthday Party
Create a lasting impression!
Make you stand out from the crowd
Provide an unusual means of fundraising
Motivate your staff!
We have about 60 different printed wrappers to choose from or we can create a wrapper from scratch. Once the design has been chosen, we then ask our customers what personal message they would like on the wrapper. You can view these designs at http://www.wrappedinyourownwords.co.uk/. However, you cannot order the wrappers online; rather we like to speak with you on the phone to find out what you would like.
We can use a person’s picture or a company/charity Logo and print them on to the wrapper. Our smallest print run is 10 and so this makes us quite different from the larger companies who wouldn’t entertain these sorts of small numbers.
How do you see the business developing?
Well it’s early days yet, so my focus at the moment is to let as many people know about the service and increase our number of orders. My sister Davina has just started helping on the technical side and she will start marketing the business in North Wales.
