Great Pub Guide
last updated Tuesday 12th July 2011 - 22:38Three recommendations in one!
A super pub guide book.
A great pub to visit enroute from London, going north or south on the M1 motorway. (Exit Junction 17)
A great gift to give to a man!
This book (Alastair Sawday`s Special Places, Pubs & Inns of England & Wales), was recommended to me by a friend who travels a fair deal. She had found the recommendations very reliable as I have too, although I probably have not used it quite as much as her.
On long distance travelling, my husband and I would preferably like to stop off at a pub rather than at a motorway service station. On a journey from London going north we detoured to the Fox and Hounds in Great Brington in Northamptonshire. A very pretty village with thatched cottages and an attractive church which is close to Althorp House. It took us 8 minutes to reach the pub from the M1 and is approximately one hour from North London.
The pub is very oldie worldy with a wealth of beams and accessories to suit. There is a lovely courtyard and car park at the rear. Fresh flowers were found both on the tables in the pub and in the “Milkmaids” aka the ladies loos!!! Gentlemen used the “Farmers”! The food was good and the staff friendly. The guide’s description was spot on and we will certainly be stopping off there again.
