Cheshire has much to offer in the way of historic towns and villages. It is generally thought of as being a flat county but if you are after views from higher places then there are plenty to be had!

Head over to Burwardsley. Here you will find a well loved pub called the Pheasant Inn. Besides having rooms it also serves great food and has wonderful views. It is well off the beaten track but not that hard to find. It is very close to the Candle Workshop so follow sign for that. The Candle Workshop may appeal to you but generally, we would advise you miss it out and concentrate on the fabulous setting. Another visitor attraction in this area is Cheshire Farm Ice Cream at Tattenhall.

From here you can pick up the Sandstone Trail if you are a keen walker. Otherwise for a shorter walk with spectacular views, after lunch, jump back into your car and make a bee line to Beeston Castle. There is a car park (£1.50) and entrance to the castle will cost you £5 unless you are a member of English Heritage. There are toilets (great for when you have just been to the pub aforementioned!) and a small visitor centre and shop.

It will take you about 15 minutes to reach the castle which is UP HILL! Be prepared for some huffing and puffing! However, all that effort will reward you with fantastic 360 degree views around Cheshire!

The castle is but a ruin but with a little imagination, one can conjure up scenes of castle life. This particular castle is built upon the site of an Iron Age Fort. Beeston Crag can be seen from many miles away and it is easy to understand why it was chosen as fort and castle.
