How Old is Too Old to Wear That ?
last updated Tuesday 14th June 2011 - 22:50Have you got to that age where you’re thinking ‘can I get away with wearing that?
Today’s world has changed somewhat from our parents when at the age of 40/50 they started dressing in middle-aged clothing, bought from particular shops
Today’s fashion industry being the big business it is, tries to fit us all under the same umbrella – but does that work?
Women now at the age of 40/50 have a much younger outlook than our mothers did and we lead very hectic, active lives and need our clothes to do the same.
So what are the rules?
Not sure there are any really but the main point is to :-
· Be true to yourself
· If you feel comfortable in something – then it’s fine
· If wearing a short skirt then wear thick tights or leggings with it·
If you wore it first time around then don’t wear it in the same way this time, but that doesn’t mean don’t wear it – think leggings!
I love short skirts as they look great proportionally on me, but I do keep that look for when I’m in London (where anything goes) and don’t wear it around my teenagers daughters, not because they dislike it – but why would I put myself through the comparisons!
· Keep more of yourself covered that the younger generation – so you can wear the same low cut dress as someone young just make sure you wear a tee-shirt underneath!
· Never show off cleavage and legs together
· Keep the length of your skirt and dress to one that suits you and if you are short legged this will be on the knee or above -not below!
· Heel can be worn at any age, but I guess the comfortableness is more of an issue, but at any age we should try and have a little bit of height as it makes us look elegant at any age.
· It is worth investing in slightly better quality materials because our body shapes are different from a skinny 20 year old and we need clothes that will skim our figures and support/lift at the same time and not cling to our figures
· We also need a different fit around the waist – because on the whole no matter how hard we try hormones will make our waists thicken as we get older so we need a more generous fit there!
· On the whole we have a bit more disposable income than the youngsters to spend on our clothes and we should invest in this wisely so spend £12 on a tee shirt rather than £2 because it then won’t be see-through and will shape our torso rather than show off all the lumps and bumps
· We can watch fashion with as much love as we always did but be more particular in what we wear from it – there will always be something in fashion that suits your body shape and so will look fantastic on you
· Don’t wear fashion head to foot but try and have a fashionable item on e.g an accessory or skirt or pattern that is on trend this way we keep up with the times without looking ridiculous
· The best way to dress in the years from 35+ is to know your body shape and how to make the most of it!
