Falling leaves, velvet shoes
last updated Wednesday 16th February 2011 - 21:52It is a truth universally known that a pair of great shoes makes an outfit both complete and perfect. They give a girl confidence, elegance and poise, and can be the artistic piece-de-resistance to an ensemble that needs a lift.
In recent seasons, shoes have almost assumed a role as a weapon of physical empowerment. With heels and platforms becoming more and more statuesque, flamboyant and stacked, the woman’s shoe has been elevated to high-power status.
This season suede and velvet seem to be making a big introduction. Seen as the vogue fabric on ballet pumps and court heels, it is a lovely decadent way of stepping into the autumn months with a regal, luxurious splash. In deep blues and purples, this fabric lends itself well to vintage glamour, and would work well with 50s pussy-bow blouses that are making waves in fashion, or cigarette pants, for a long, lean silhouette.
It’s important not to forget the practical beauty of the flat show either, however. In the same fabrics, ballet pumps can be just as glamorous. Treat your feet to chic comfort and purchase a pair of suede pumps adorned with flowers, bows and gems. They are the perfect addition to an October outfit teamed with a camel trench coat and a classic pair of tight jeans.
When it gets to winter, obviously the pump will have to take a back seat, and the boot will step up. This season there’s a lot of military-inspired detail floating around, so expect to see shearling-lined biker boots, and various buckles, straps and distressed leather in the shops. It’s all about making the sturdy look feminine and glam.
Fashion-conscious females don’t have to fork out fortunes on these catwalk inspired heels. High street shops like New Look have designers emulating and transferring these couture concepts to their shop floors at ordinary prices. Check out their website for the latest in autumn and winter shoes.
