If you have been to Turkey or the Far East you may well have already experienced this unusual method for giving feet a unique treatment, for it is here that this practice originates. The Garra Rufa fish are sometimes referred to as doctor fish, nibble fish or kangal fish. The fish live in river basins of the Northern and Central Middle East, mainly in Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran.
In 2006 spas opened in Japan and Croatia using these small fish as a way to treat people with skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema. Spas can now be found in many countries including many in the Far East, USA and Europe.
Here in the UK you can now have a pedicure treatment, where the fish nibble away dead skin, stimulate acupuncture points and it is claimed blood circulation and flow is greatly increased. The company providing this service is called Appyfeet and a 15 minute treatment costs £10.

A treatment begins with a foot bath to cleanse the feet followed by immersion of both feet in one`s own personal fish tank where the fish begin their task.
