Know Your Onions

Hi, my name is Jayne Simmonds and I recently set up a jewellery business Know Your Onions.

Having spent far too many years designing for the ceramic industry (yes, for them all, Wedgwood, Royal Doulton, Spode and Royal Worcester), I thought it was time to step out of my comfort zone and give myself fresh challenges.

I have always adored jewellery, not diamonds and precious metals, but large, dramatic statement jewellery that finishes off an outfit, that turns the mundane into something adventurous. It was this passion that became the bedrock of the idea of the business and the range that I designed and modeled, and of course now subsequently make, on a day to day basis. I sort my design inspiration again from things that I have an affinity with, that are beautiful and evocative, that have links to the past. Hopefully this makes the pieces ‘staples’ of the jewellery box, returned to year after year.

I have launched two collections, in an ivory and slate finish, across bangles, pedants and brooches. The pieces are intricately engraved with details and patterns with an heirloom quality yet are big, bold and dramatic. Made of resin, the two finishes work equally well mixed together or on their own.

The pieces are handmade in the UK, (yes by myself), which I feel is important in this day and age, focusing on quality product that I believe has longevity.
