I Love sunglasses - much to my families and friends amusement, exasperation  and credulity “not another pair”

It’s very easy to go out there and buy lots of sunglasses, but getting the ‘right’ pair is a bit more difficult.

Follow these suggestions and you’ll be ‘all set to go’

First of all define your face shape - not as simple as it sounds, we all think we know what shape face we have, but do the following exercise and see if your right

Find a mirror
Find a washable felt tip pen
Tie back your hair
Close one eye

Onto the mirror draw the shape of your face  - don’t move yourself or the mirror ( you would be surprised how many people end up drawing on themselves!)

This may take a couple of practices!!!

Now compare the shape  to the ones below

If you’re still having problems then try this measuring method.

Measure your face across the top of your cheekbones. Write down the measurement on a piece of paper.

Measure across your jaw line from the widest point to the widest point. Write down the measurement.

Measure across your forehead at the widest point. Generally the widest point will be somewhere about halfway between your eyebrows and your hairline. Write down the measurement.

Measure from the tip of your hairline to the bottom  of your chin.

Look at your measurements and now find your face shape:-

Oval Face
Length equal to one and a half times width

Round face
Your face is as wide as it is long. This may vary a little but generally the measurement is close.

Oblong
Longer than it is wide.

Heart
Narrow at jaw line, wide at cheekbones/and or forehead

Square
Your face is about as wide as it is long

Diamond
Widest at cheekbones, narrow forehead and jaw line of approximately equal width

Shapes and Styles

Oval
Oval is considered the best face shape as it has the most balance proportions and can generally pull off any style glasses. In order to keep it’s even proportions though you may find that it is best to pick a frame that is as wide as or wider than the broadest part of the face, or a walnut shaped frame that is not too deep or to narrow. This face shape can also suit glasses that are a squarer shape with soft edges and frames with definition around the upper temples.

Rectangle
This face shape is narrower at the forehead then gets wider at the cheeks and is wider at the jaw. To balance this out you may find it advisable to pick glasses that take the attention to the top rim of the frame, perhaps semi-rimless glasses.

Round
A round face has curved linear lines and the width and length are in similar proportions with no harsh angles. To lengthen this shape and make it appear thinner you may try a softly angular, narrow frame or glasses with more width than depth. You’ll probably find it best to stay away from big round glasses, and keep the width equal to or wider than the broadest part of you face.

Square
This face shape has a broad forehead, wide cheekbones and a strong jaw line, the width and length of the face are almost the same. To lengthen and soften the face you could try glasses with more width than depth, perhaps a narrow ova shape or anything with rounder softer edges.

Heart
This face shape is wider at the forehead but has a narrow jaw. To bring this in to balance you may wish to try frames that are wider at the bottom. It can also help is you pick light coloured frames or even rimless glasses. Alternately you may wish to accentuate the eyes with cat eye shapes or glasses with details or more width in the top corners.

Triangle
This is a face shape that is narrower at the forehead and then gets wider at the cheeks and is wider at the jaw. To balance this you may find it advisable to pick glasses that take the attention to the top rim of the frame perhaps semi-rimless glasses

There is so much choice out there (may be too much), that it is possible to find something to suit every budget - but remember you get what you pay for in terms of the lens - Ray Ban is still the Number one for the lens.
