Although I have always know they are high in Potassium and a great source of energy I was surprised to read quite how wonderful a food they are. Enjoy!

I have just eaten my banana for the day. Did not realise how many things a banana could help. I know that you can survive purely by living off advocados. It is the only fruit that has all the nutrients you need, mmm albeit milk for calcium

What great facts BIS :) to be honest I hardly eat them, dont know why, I do like them - perhaps its because a certain greedy chops in my house gets to them first

Have also heard that mashed banaha makes a great anti-aging face mask. :)

Also they make a creamy ice cream substitute if you want something less fatty! You just cut up a ripe banana into slices, lay them flat separated and freeze. You then blitz them in a food processor adding a little milk or soya milk for vegans, vanilla extract or any thing else that takes your fancy and voila instant soft scoop ice cream. My brother just likes to eat them frozen like an ice lolly, you cut them in half before freezing and insert a lolly stick! I know it does not sound like it would work but it does :D

I've been making a few things from bananas in the last week as we got a box full from some friends of ours, but on the weekend I made this banana ice cream that tasted so good, here is what I did;

5 Bananas (ripe)
Juice of a lemon
400ml cream
Vanilla essence
50g sugar

All I did was put everything into my processor and mixed it all then poured the mixture in my ice cream maker and let it churn then freeze. A few hours later we sat down to a delicious dessert

I love bananas - breakfast, snack, pudding, cake, ice cream - they're great in everything! I didn't mean to make ice cream but was making smoothies with banana, mixed berries (frozen) and yoghurt. Blitzed in the blender and out came the most delicious soft ice cream! And low in fat too :D

I am a lover of bananas too. They are so versatile, I am even known to have the odd banana sandwich as a comfort food :)

Dear BoredinSpain,
:?: Q.How can you be bored in Spain? However, re bananas. I used to mash them up for my babies/ toddlers for their tea or give them banana sandwiches. Very healthy and easy to digest - although one doctor said they should be very ripe - like brown.Ugh!
I have recently started eating them again myself. They are a snack in its own wrapping and do lower blood pressure due to the potassium. I thought it would help offset the effects of wine. :) :D
However, BP is staying down in spite of 'Mum' problems. Still what do you expect at 94?
Do you know? The problem is not getting the help. It is getting 'Mum' to accept that help in fact and not just in words. They (and 'Dad's) will retain more control of their lives if they accept the help on offer. The ageing children's' lives would be easier too. Have I struck a chord?
Perhaps Bananas would help?

This is my escapism rant. Hope it has relieved the boredom for a bit.
Now to writing more on Skills for Employability.

Rosalie x

Oh! Rosalie have you struck a chord?? ;) My in-laws are very elderly and becoming more and more dependant as the days go by, and I fully agree with you, IF ONLY they would accept the advice and help offered. :? Obviously, encourage the eating of bananas might just help a little. :)
