As a family we have never been great at walking. Our children were always happy to walk miles around Disney World but up hill and down dale was never an option. Today though we walked, even if it was mainly on the same level!
Our youngest daughter is home for the week and having had yet another late lie in, this morning, she climbed in besides me and asked what was the entertainment for the day. We all suggested ideas and ended up on a trip to Chester. A nice lunch in our favourite Italian, Piccolino, followed by a walk around the city walls. Something we have partly done but never having gone the whole way round.
I think many people are guilty of not appreciating what is on their door step. This is approximately, a 45 minute to an hour walk. It really depends on whether you stop to read all the plaques at the various towers and take in the views which obviously we have seen many times but were seeing from a different perspective. Something which we did today.
We discovered all about the claim that King Charles watched his troops defeat in 1645 from one of the towers by the Parliamentarians. There is Roman Chester, Medieval Chester, Georgian Chester. History abounds.
Arriving back at the centre of town, our dear daughter announced that that was “so boring”. Ah well, at least 2 out of 3, enjoyed it!
